How do you get a Fiat, Alfa Romeo or Abarth Certificate of Conformity for a UK import?
We obtain it for you as part of the import. A Certificate of Conformity usually costs from £120 to around £385, depending on the make, model and year. For a classic over 10 years old you need proof of age instead, and a Certificate of Origin, a dating document we obtain for you, confirms the year of production. That certificate is not the customs proof of origin that lowers duty.

1. When you need the CoC
A car under 10 years old needs proof of approval before first registration in Great Britain; for a car registered in the EU, the CoC is that proof (GOV.UK). A left-hand drive car also needs a GB conversion IVA. A car over 10 years old needs neither (GOV.UK exemptions list).
2. Getting the CoC
We obtain the CoC for you as part of the import, for Fiat, Fiat Professional, Alfa Romeo and Abarth. All we need from you is the VIN and the country where the car is registered. A CoC usually costs from £120 to around £385, depending on the make, model and year.

For a car over 10 years old, the DVLA wants the date of manufacture: the original foreign registration document, or other dating evidence if that does not show the date (GOV.UK). A Certificate of Origin does that job: it confirms the year of production and original configuration, and sometimes the date of sale, engine and colours. We obtain it for you; a dating letter usually costs from about £60 to £90 through an owners' club, or from about £120 to around £300 directly from the manufacturer.
4. Certificate of Origin is not proof of origin
The Certificate of Origin is a history document. The paper that can bring duty to 0% on an Italian-built car is customs proof of origin, a different thing. An original classic over 30 years old of a model no longer in production pays 0% duty and 5% VAT anyway. More in our Certificate of Conformity guide.
